Envisioning a world where children grasp their preciousness and families are restored, Miriam’s Heart is a New Jersey-based non-profit. Miriam’s Heart enjoys a variety of partnerships that knit together families, agencies, child-protective services, churches, and organizations that holistically work together in support of adopted and foster children and families.
One of those valued partnerships is with Investors Bank and the Investors Foundation. Antonella “Antie” Celli, the Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of the Investors Bank Pluckemin Office pointed us to apply for a grant. Within the next year, we were awarded a grant to purchase a computer and provide technology support. “Now we can offer expanded programs and additional support because our team has been provided tools to meet the needs of the children and families we serve,” said Elizabeth Occhipinti, co-founder, and President of Miriam’s Heart. The new equipment offers the staff of Miriam’s Heart the opportunity to deliver new programs within Somerset County, as well as video-conferencing training and classes to families in remote areas. The team at Miriam’s Heart has already offered video speech and language evaluation and support to an adoptive family and missionary couple in Liberia.
The importance of support to adopted and foster children and families cannot be overstated. Children who have come into homes after facing loss and trauma are at high risk for negative outcomes such as drug addiction, suicide, health issues, and more. The programs at Miriam’s Heart are based on the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) method developed by Texas Christian University – Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development. “When I hear of a local business, like Investors, coming alongside us with their support, it bolsters my feelings that Miriam’s Heart is making a difference in the lives of the children we serve, and the community around us see that,” explained Alessandra Duck, Program Coordinator for Miriam’s Heart. “We are so grateful to offer our team access to the technology we need for our programs because of the generosity of Investors Foundation,” she continued. “No one could have foreseen how important this grant would be in continuing our work during this global pandemic. It is through acts of generosity and kindness like this that the true impact of this grant from the Investors Foundation shines through” Occhipinti concluded.
